On first run this script prompts you to enter a path to your external codec application.
It then and subsequently, opens the codec app with the selected footage item preloaded.

I recommend using Gspot on the win side. The closest on the mac I could google is MovieGate
but the script has not been tested with it.

Version 2 is AE 7+ only, but should now be cross platform friendly
